Chevrolet Volt to undercut Ampera pricing

By / 13 years ago / International News / No Comments

Chevrolet announced pricing while celebrating its centenary at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Volt features a battery-powered electric motor to give between 30 and 50 miles of range from a four hour charge. Once the batteries drop below a third charge, a “range extender” 1.4-litre petrol engine kicks in to keep it topped up.

Unlike a hybrid, the engine never directly provides power to the wheels, but the range extender setup gives owners the same refuelling times as a conventional car. Spec is also high, with leather seats fitted as standard.

Chevrolet UK managing director, Mark Terry, said: 'The Volt is a truly incredible car – the first ever compromise-free electric car with zero-emissions capability. You can use it for going to work and back during the week without ever putting fuel in, but it’s also an electric car that you can use for a family holiday. There are never any concerns that a flat battery will leave you stranded.'
