Electric pool car proves popular choice with Asda staff

The Nissan LEAF has been provided by the supermarket giant’s leasing and fleet management partner Zenith and is based at Asda House in Leeds for employees based there to drive for business use.

The vehicle is mainly used by the company’s merchandising and marketing teams to visit stores in the region.

All journeys are made locally on a single charge, and the vehicle is left overnight at a dedicated parking spot with a type-2 charging point at Asda House ready for use the next day.

Sarah Belmont, corporate sustainability manager for Asda, said: ‘The Nissan LEAF is a very popular pool car. Any Asda colleague can book it and they think it’s a great resource as, unlike hiring a car, there is no charge to their department for using it.  Parking can be tricky due to our city centre location, but the LEAF has its own dedicated parking spot at the front of Asda House so it’s very convenient and the car is always fully charged in the morning ready for the next colleague to use it.’

ASDA has made a commitment to be the UK leader in providing these facilities for its customers, and already has the most charging points of any retailer in the UK.
