ITM Power to supply hydrogen refuelling stations for Shell forecourts

The agreement comes five months after the firm was awarded £1.9m by OLEV to invest in two new hydrogen refuelling stations in London at strategic locations suitable for use by Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV), with additional financial support of £1.7m to be provided by the FCH JU (Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking) to provide support for the operation of these stations in the early years.

Following the agreement with Shell, at least one, possibly two, of these hydrogen refuelling stations will be built under the OLEV scheme.

Dr Graham Cooley, CEO, ITM Power, commented: “This agreement and the OLEV funding for these new refuelling stations in the South East is an important step in developing hydrogen mobility in the UK. These HRS deployments will be the first to be fully integrated on fuel forecourts.”

Last year saw ITM Power take delivery of one of the first Hyundai ix35 fuel cell vehicles to arrive in the UK as part of the £31m Hydrogen For Innovative Vehicles (HyFive) project funded by the FCH JU under the EU Framework 7 programme.
