Lexus previews IS-based hybrid coupe

By / 10 years ago / International News / No Comments

If confirmed for production, the RC coupe will be Lexus’s first entry into the compact executive coupe segment since the SC was withdrawn from the UK market in 2009, and will be an important model for broadening its appeal against premium-brand German rivals such as the Audi A5 and BMW 4 Series.

Measuring 30mm shorter in length, and with a 70mm shorter wheelbase than the IS, Lexus has widened the coupe by 30mm compared to its sibling while dropping the roof height 35mm for a wider stance and sportier silhouette. I

The interior and powertrains are shared with the IS, including the 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine and Lexus’s new four-cylinder hybrid drivetrain, which should offer CO2 emissions under 110g/km. Lexus has yet to announce pricing or running costs, but is likely to confirm more at the RC’s global unveiling on the 20 November.
