Wearing full livery, the car was presented at the Police and Security Conference in Farnborough in response to an ACPO competition, and was used to display the latest technology to delegates. Some of the features debuted could be in active use by 2015.

On-board technology includes an internal camera with facial recognition and the latest Police software used to predict potential crime hotspots, plus four external cameras to record evidence. The car’s standard dashboard display screen has been modified to show information from Police databases, which can also be accessed from the passenger’s sun visor.

Dick Ellam, Vauxhall special vehicles manager, said: ‘We are delighted to have won the ACPO ITS competition and are excited to have displayed the fittingly ground-breaking Ampera featuring this array of cutting-edge equipment.’
