PSA signs deal on EV battery recycling

The deal extends an ongoing partnership with the Société Nouvelle d'Affinage des Métaux (SNAM), which will be responsible for collecting nickel-metal hydride and lithium-ion high-voltage batteries from Peugeot, Citroën and DS dealerships and repair centres across Europe.

European regulations require at least 50% of the weight of a battery to be recycled once it is removed from an end-of-life vehicle. SNAM says it will be able to recycle 80% of the weight of a high-voltage battery.

PSA has four electric vehicles on sale in Europe – the C-Zero and iOn city cars, as well as versions of the Berlingo and Partner vans. The company also sells diesel-electric hybrids in the Peugeot 508, DS 5 and, until recently, offered this in the Peugeot 3008 crossover.
