Renault ZOE to become solar energy store in Franco-Dutch project

The company signed a letter of intent in Paris today, with Utrecht City Council, ElaadNL and LomboXnet to launch the Franco-Dutch project, to install a network of 1,000 publically accessible fast chargers around the city.

This will take place in two phases, the first installing the network, supplied by a 44kW connection and supported by 10,000 photovoltaic panels in the region, plus deploying the ZOE fleet as a new car sharing service. Phase two will develop a vehicle-to-grid system, enabling the cars to supply the renewable energy stored in their batteries back to the grid when demand is high.

ElaadNL will take care of managing the network, LomboXnet will install them while grid operator Stedin will be responsible for balancing energy supply based on demand.
