TfL begins mapping rapid chargers for electric van fleets

By / 10 years ago / International News / No Comments

The Chargepoint Mapping project will log three months of telematics data from commercial vehicle fleets based in the capital to help plan a network of rapid chargers in the capital, in turn allowing businesses to maximise the cost and environmental benefits of electric commercial vehicles.

Managed by the Energy Saving Trust and Route Monkey, the project is seeking participants who either already have electric vans on their fleet, or are considering it.

These businesses must operate within the M25, have a minimum of 10 commercial vehicles of up to 12.5 tonnes GVW, and be prepared to supply telematics or scheduling data – either historic or live – for the trial.

Rapid charging points typically offer an 80% charge in around half an hour, but are dependent on a compatible charger fitted to the vehicle. The Nissan e-NV200 features rapid charging capability, and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, which will soon be available as a commercial vehicle, is also capable of doing so.
