UK the third-largest market for Outlander PHEV

According to Mitsubishi Motors UK, 21,052 have been registered since the model launched in April 2014. Over half of the carmaker’s sales in the UK are the plug-in hybrid.

Its biggest global market is Japan, where 33,730 have been sold since orders began in December 2012. Despite the significantly larger volumes, the average rate of sales per month are almost identical to the UK.

In Europe, the largest share has been taken by The Netherlands. Figures from the country’s Enterprise Agency (Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend) show 24,592 have been registered there since orders began in December 2012, of which 10,000 were placed before European-market versions began production in September 2013.

Collectively, the car’s top three markets account for 79,374 units, or 78% of the 101,533 Outlander PHEVs sold globally. Sales are due to begin in North America this autumn.
