Developed by Evatran Group, in partnership with Bosch Automotive Service Solutions, the PLUGLESS system is compatible with the Chevrolet Volt and the 2010-2012 Nissan LEAF, and includes a wireless charging pad and an adaptor which is fitted to the vehicle.

The first 250 units will be sold with a $1,000 discount, bringing the price down to $1,998 for the LEAF system or $2,098 for the Volt. In each case the system can recharge the car’s battery in the same time as a wired connection, and Evatran is developing adaptors to suit additional models, with a wider range due to be announced shortly.

Rebecca Hough, Evatran CEO and co-founder, said: ‘After years of trials with commercial and municipal partners including Google, Duke Energy, the City of Raleigh, and Hertz, we're excited to announce that the time has come.

‘To celebrate our first shipments, we will be offering a 30% discount off the price of our PLUGLESS system to our initial 250 customers. This is an important day for the future of electric vehicles and we're proud to invite our first 250 customers to join us in making history.’
