Coulomb’s ChargePoint network spans 14 countries and includes systems to allow electric vehicle drivers to locate and reserve charging points via smartphone. Its back office system offers charging point owners the ability to track energy usage, process payments, and provide driver support remotely.

BMW had already partnered with Coulomb for the US trials of its 1 Series-based ActiveE, offering drivers access to the ChargePoint America network, its smartphone application and 24-hour support line.

Dr. Ulrich Quay, Managing Director of BMW i Ventures, said: ‘BMW is focused on providing comprehensive services that make the charging of BMW electric vehicles a premium experience. ChargePoint is the largest, longest established network with a significantly advanced and mature feature set. This investment will forge a close and strategic relationship as we further our electric mobility offer.’

Pat Romano, president and CEO of Coulomb Technologies, added: ‘We look forward to working with BMW to expand our global footprint and help support the adoption of electric vehicles worldwide.’
