UK-based conversion specialist Dynamo Motor Company has revealed its plans for an all-electric last-mile delivery van version of the Maxus e Deliver 3.

Expected to cost around £4,995 (exc. VAT), the conversion service takes a short wheelbase e Deliver 3 Maxus van and equips it with the same cargo capacity as a long wheelbase van, by raising the roof height and lengthening the rear doors. As a result, the conversion gives a capacity of 6m3, up from the base van’s 4.8m3 and with a total payload of 860kg.

Benefits include a smaller vehicle footprint as well as easier entry/exit for the driver and simpler van loading easier due to its full-height rear doors.

The conversion, which measures 4,555mm long, 1,780mm wide and 2,245mm tall (up from the original Maxus van’s 1,895mm height), also fits in all standard parking bays.

It uses the larger 52.5kWh battery in the e Deliver 3, said to be capable of more than 150 miles of real-world city driving range. The battery can be charged to 80% capacity in 45 minutes on a rapid charger while a full charge at home would take around seven hours.

It’s the latest development from Dynamo Motor Company, which already produces a fully electric black cab based on the Nissan e-NV200, and has big plans for UK growth, aiming to convert 10,000 vehicles a year by 2026 at its Coventry plant.

The expansion will be delivered in part by public investment through the Seedrs fundraising platform; the campaign launched on 12 July and has already seen more than £1,650,000 committed of its £2,000,000 target.

Dynamo has also appointed E-Van Guru as its sales and distribution partner.

Brendan O’Toole, founder of Dynamo Motor Company, said: “As a company manufacturing clever, zero-emission vehicles, our focus has always been how we can help lower our carbon footprint, which is why we developed the Dynamo Taxi, the world’s first all-electric black cab. However, over the last few years we have seen an increase in inner city pollution and congestion, and we wanted to develop an additional product to our all-electric line-up that would assist in this.

“When we began our research into our next project, we could see a clear demand for last-mile delivery vans in cities across the UK. With a focus on energy efficiency at the forefront of our values, we saw a way that we could help ease congestion. With one small change to the height of the Maxus e Deliver 3 we were able to dramatically change the way it can be used by delivery drivers, to increase the overall load space by 20% through our own conversion engineering and design.”
