By / 9 years ago / International News / No Comments

At stake at this year’s sell-out Show, which is being sponsored by Barclaycard in association with TMC, is not only the coveted Fleet Driver of the Year title, won last year by Philip Palmer, Territory Sales Manager at Worldpay, but a host of other prizes including:

•   A pair of tickets for this year’s Formula One Grand Prix at Silverstone for the winner and two runners-up

•   A hot lap in a 5.0-Litre V8 Lexus RC F around the International Circuit at Silverstone for the winner

•   Full access to the Fleet World Fleet Show including seminars, test drives and the main exhibition for the finalists

•   The chance to test drive a range of vehicles on the world-famous International, National, Stowe and 4×4 circuits.

The first phase of the 2015 competition, now in its third year and again being organised by ALD in conjunction with Fleet World and Toyota, comes to a close this Friday, February 13th.

Entrants will need to first register at http://www.fdoty.com/index.php/register and then complete an online driver safety and highway code questionnaire. This questionnaire will test basic driving and road safety knowledge and feature multiple choice questions.

Top-scoring entrants will then be invited to complete the next phase of the competition – a driver risk assessment based on psychometric analysis carried out by driver training specialists, AA DriveTech.

Based on the test results, those rated good enough to progress to the next phase will then have ALD’s award-winning ProFleet2 in-car telematics solution fitted to their vehicle at no cost to the driver or their company.

Over a four-week driver monitoring phase, the drivers’ driving behaviour will be closely monitored to identify those with a smooth, safe and efficient driving style. This information will then be relayed via a weekly leader board to all participants so they can see clearly how they are progressing in the competition.

The top 10 drivers on the leader board will then be invited to attend the finals day at the Silverstone Fleet Show, where they will face a set of practical driving tests to thoroughly examine their driving skills under the watchful eyes of AA DriveTech‘s specialist driver trainers.

All the final driving tests will be carried out in a specially provided fleet of Toyota cars which will give the finalists the opportunity to experience their fuel economy and handling capabilities.

Last year’s winner, Phillip Palmer, said: ‘Winning was incredible and I thoroughly enjoyed every challenge we undertook at Silverstone. The experience really made me aware of my own driving style and how small changes in technique can result in improvements in safety and fuel efficiency.’

Fleet Show organiser Jerry Ramsdale commented:’We are delighted to again host the ALD Automotive Fleet Driver of the Year final at the Silverstone Fleet Show and wish all possible luck this year’s entrants.’

This year’s sell-out Fleet Show promises to provide something for everyone. As well as the Fleet Driver of the Year Finals, there will be a wide variety of activities of real interest at this year’s event.

These include the highly successful fleet training sessions first introduced last year and which involve a series of interactive workshops run by practising fleet managers for anyone wanting to find out more about fleet management.

The workshops will tackle four key fleet topics: the fundamentals of fleet management, risk management, environmental management and procurement, and will again encourage audience participation and feedback.

Meanwhile, test driving will again be a major focus of the event, with three circuits of the world-famous Silverstone Grand Prix venue available, plus off-road driving on the 4×4 course.

A record number of vehicle manufacturers are attending this year’s event with 24 individual brands being represented. There will also be a special emphasis on alternative powertrains, including electric and hybrid powered vehicles, which looks set to be a major attraction for fleet decision-makers.
