Honda to drop Insight and CR-Z hybrids in Europe

A spokesperson from Honda said both cars are due to be replaced at the end of the year, but neither of the next-generation hybrids will be sold in Europe.

According to SMMT figures, UK sales of the Insight totaled 462 units during 2013, while the CR-Z coupe sold 318 cars. The Toyota Auris Hybrid found 6,160 UK homes during 2013.

Instead, Honda will focus on products built in Europe – specifically the Civic range with the 1.6-litre Earth Dreams Technology diesel engine, the Civic Tourer and Type R, and the CR-V SUV, which is now available with the same downsized diesel engine.

Honda’s European hybrid range will be cut back to a single model – the Jazz Hybrid – though this is also due for an imminent replacement. The Civic Hybrid was withdrawn during 2010.
