Toyota’s revamped and restyled C-HR crossover is on sale now, priced from £31,290.

Starting deliveries from January 2024, the new arrival builds on the very firm foundations of the original with radical restyling and a new plug-in hybrid powertrain.

A best-seller for the brand, the first-generation C-HR has proved a big hit in the European C-SUV segment while helping to transform the public perception of the Toyota brand.

The new model launches initially with 1.8- and 2.0-litre versions powered by fifth-generation Toyota full hybrid technology that ups both power and efficiency. The 1.8-litre hybrid delivers 140hp and front-wheel drive while the 2.0-litre ups power to 198hp and gets the option of all-wheel drive. A 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid arrives in spring 2024.

Four grades are available. The entry Icon, Design and Excel grades come solely with the smaller hybrid while the GR Sport and limited-run, top-spec Premiere Edition are exclusive to the 2.0-litre.

The Icon grade, priced at £31,290, features 17-inch alloy wheels, 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with Toyota Smart Connect, cloud-based navigation, wireless smartphone integration, 7.0-inch driver’s display, powered door mirrors with auto-folding function and an electrically operated tailgate.

The latest, third-generation Toyota Safety Sense package delivers functions including pre-crash system, adaptive cruise control, lane trace assist, road sign assist and automatic high beam, blind spot monitor and safe exit assist system.

Design grade is priced at £34,685 and adds 18-inch alloy wheels with a machined finish, rear privacy glass and parking sensors with automatic brake function. It also gains a larger 12.3-inch Toyota Smart Connect+ touchscreen with navigation, 12.3-inch driver’s display and a wireless phone charger. Options include a panoramic roof with thermal glass and bi-tone paint finish.

Move up to the C-HR Excel – priced at £38,150 – and drivers get 19-inch machined alloys, bi-tone exterior paintwork, front sports seats with suede-effect upholstery and a panoramic roof as standard. A panoramic camera aids parking and additional safety features include lane change assist, front cross traffic alert, adaptive high-beam system headlights, cornering lights and a driver monitor camera. On the options list are a JBL audio system and a Tech Pack with a digital key, head-up display and digital rear-view mirror.

The GR Sport is the entry grade for the 2.0-litre hybrid. It’s priced at £40,465 and based on the Excel, adding in styling features inspired by Toyota Gazoo Racing, including 20-inch GR Sport alloys, plus a head-up display and JBL audio. Options include a Premium Pack with panoramic roof, digital key, digital key, digital rear-view mirror, cornering lights, head-up display and adaptive high-beam headlights. A Safety Pack offers driver monitor camera, adaptive high-beam system with automatic levelling, cornering lights, digital rear-view mirror, lane change assist, panoramic view monitor and front cross traffic alert.

The Premiere Edition sits at the top of the launch line-up, priced at £42,270 and with all the standard and optional Excel features plus leather upholstery and an exclusive bi-tone exterior.

Demonstrator vehicles will be available to test drive at centres from December. Prices and details for the C-HR PHEV will be released closer to launch.
