Dubbed Filante to signify “shooting stars, outer space and journeys”, the new model will take the form of a “distinctive and daring upcoming high-end crossover” and advances plans to lead the brand upmarket and strengthen its product offensive beyond Europe.

Renault says it’s taken inspiration from its Etoile Filante, a storied aircraft-inspired single-seater engineered to smash speed records, unveiled in 1956. Its sleek design, avant-garde hallmarks and records – including 300km/h (186mph) over 1km and 5km – made automotive history. The name also echoes Filante Record 2025; the brand’s fully electric concept car that set a new record for energy efficiency at the end of 2025.

The fifth model out of eight set out in the brand’s International Game Plan 2027, the Filante will sit at the top of Renault’s line-up outside Europe. It will be built at the firm’s plant in Busan, South Korea, and will initially launch in the local market ahead of being exported to other regions. It’s not expected to launch in the UK or the rest of Europe.

Powertrains are yet to be announced but are expected to include petrol and hybrid versions.

More details will be revealed at Filante’s unveiling in Seoul on 13 January at 8am CET.
