Announced at the Plug-In 2011 Conference and Exposition in Raleigh, North Carolina, the truck will be rolled out at six metropolitan areas across the USA as part of the pilot, serving motorists Portland, Oregon, San Francisco, Knoxville and Tampa Bay.

On board is a point offering Level 2 and faster Level 3 charging, as well as equipment to perform the usual roadside assistance functions. From the 15 minute charge offered by the AAA, drivers will be able to cover up to 15 miles to the nearest charging point where they can top up to full range.

Marshall L. Doney, AAA Automotive vice president, commented. ‘As the electric vehicle market continues to emerge, AAA is ready to help alleviate some ‘range anxiety’ with the ability to provide a charge to electric vehicles on the roadside that gets drivers back on the go quickly.’
