ABB launches 360kW EV charger

A new 360kW EV charger said to provide the fastest charging experience on the market is now available from ABB.

The Terra 360 from ABB can deliver 100km (62 miles) of range in less than three minutes

Developed for use at public sites such as fuelling stations and retail locations, the new Terra 360 features a compact footprint and can also be used at workplaces to charge electric fleet cars, vans and trucks.

It’s capable of fully charging any electric car in 15 minutes or less. And thanks to its modular set-up, it can simultaneously charge up to four vehicles at once, using dynamic power distribution.

The Terra 360 uses a lighting system to guide the user through the charging process and show the State of Charge of the EV battery and the residual time before the end of an optimal charge session. It’s also wheelchair accessible and features an ergonomic cable management system designed to help drivers plug in quickly with minimal effort.

The chargers are fully customisable and can include an integrated 27-inch advertisement screen to play video and pictures.

Frank Muehlon, president of ABB’s E-mobility Division, said: “With governments around the world writing public policy that favours electric vehicles and charging networks to combat climate change, the demand for EV charging infrastructure, especially charging stations that are fast, convenient and easy to operate is higher than ever. The Terra 360, with charging options that fit a variety of needs, is the key to fulfilling that demand and accelerating e-mobility adoption globally.”

The Terra 360 will be available in Europe from the end of 2021, and in the USA, Latin America and Asia Pacific regions in 2022.

It’s the latest solution to launch from ABB, which entered the e-mobility market back in 2010 and offers a full range of charging and electrification solutions for electric cars, electric and hybrid buses, vans, trucks, ships and railways.

Its high-power chargers are already being deployed around the world through the company’s partnerships with international charging operators such as Ionity and Electrify America.

The business has also committed to switching its entire fleet of more than 10,000 vehicles to zero-emission vehicles.
