Shenzhen BYD Daimler New Technology Co. Ltd (BDNT) was formed in February 2011, and has since been working to develop the DENZA – an China-only electric vehicle based on the Mercedes-Benz B-Class platform.

The DENZA will be unveiled at Auto China in Beijing this April, with the first dealers opening in mid 2014. Swiss-Swedish manufacturer ABB will now supply its wall-mounted fast chargers to the car’s owners, though the DENZA can be charged from a domestic socket.

Arno Röhringer, COO of BDNT, said: ‘The DENZA represents a significant step in sustainable transportation for the Chinese automotive market. It was vital, that we have the right infrastructure partner to support this innovative concept. ABB is the ideal technology partner for us, as they have proven themselves worldwide including China with chargers and – equally important – the service to install it.
