ALD Automotive is to hold an event to shed light on clean air zones (CAZs) and the knock-on effects for city centre mobility for fleets.

Bristol is looking at options for charging clean air zones as well as the potential for a non-charging zone

Free to attend, the event on Tuesday 6 November in Bristol is designed to inform fleets across the UK about measures that can be taken now, as well as to dispel some of the myths surrounding the use of alternatively fuelled vehicles.

This will be supported by research being carried out by ALD in association with the University of the West of England (UWE) to examine the travel habits of company car drivers commuting into Bristol. Although the city is not on the Government’s initial list of five cities earmarked for the first CAZs, the council is looking at the possibility of introducing such a scheme as well as more investment in public transport and cycling, and changes in traffic management.

As well as featuring UWE and Bristol City Council, the ALD Clean Air Zone day will also include the Energy Saving Trust and Chargemaster while Ford and Kia will share their developments in low-emission vehicles, including a sneak peek of the new fully electric Kia Niro.

Matt Dale, head of consultancy for ALD and a named Energy Saving Trust Fleet Hero award winner, said: “There is a lot of misunderstanding around clean air zones and what the implications will be for businesses across the UK. When you add to that the confusion surrounding the use of alternatively fuelled vehicles, it is not surprising that companies are genuinely concerned about what they should be doing to prepare for the next few years. This event will complete the picture and give employers some exciting, positive strategies that they can work on immediately.”
