BMW is rolling out a major package of updates across its line-up from the spring, boosting range, performance and functionality.

The i5 and i5 Touring benefit from a big range boost thanks to various technical advances that reduce their energy consumption. The result is an increase in driving range of up to 29 miles (47km), depending on the model and specification. Key to this has been the first-ever use of silicon carbide semiconductor components in the power electronics, plus low-rolling resistance tyres fitted to aerodynamic alloy wheels and optimised wheel bearings.

Standard equipment on the i5 M60 xDrive now includes the M Sport package Pro.

BMW is also upgrading the interior on 5 Series models. Previously optional ambient lighting with the BMW Interaction Bar featuring a crystalline surface now comes as standard. The line-up also gets lumbar support for both front seats, as well as the Harman Kardon HiFi loudspeaker system. The switchgear in the doors has also been upgraded and is now finished in high-gloss black. BMW Individual Merino Leather in Black/Dark Violet is available as a new option for customising the interior.

Upgrades for various BMW plug-in hybrid models from March 2025 will give a faster AC charging rate, increased from 7.4 kW to 11kW, resulting in significantly reduced AC charging times. This applies to the plug-in hybrid variants of the X1, 2 Series Active Tourer, 7 Series and all XM models.

The changes also deliver two new powertrain variants for the 2 Series Gran Coupé from March including a new entry-level variant. The 216 Gran Coupé features a 122hp 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine married up to a seven-speed double-clutch Steptronic transmission. WLTP CO2 emissions stand at 145g/km with fuel consumption of 36.7mpg and a 9.9-second 0-62mph time.

The new 223 xDrive Gran Coupé adds an all-wheel drive variant with 48V mild-hybrid technology to the range. The four-cylinder petrol engine and integrated electric motor deliver a total system output of 218hp, with WLTP CO2 emissions of 144g/km and fuel consumption of 37.3mpg.

The X3 model range will likewise be expanded, with a six-cylinder in-line diesel engine and 48V mild hybrid technology. With 303hp on tap, it will be the model’s the most powerful diesel variant. Married up to an eight‑speed Steptronic transmission, the new X3 40d xDrive takes 5.4 seconds to get to 62mph from a standing start.

Other changes include the debut of the new BMW Digital Key Plus, a tyre repair kit Plus as standard on X2 and additional models, and extended equipment features for the X5, X6 and X7.
