BYD reveals prices and specs for Sealion 7 electric SUV

BYD has revealed details for its Sealion 7 electric SUV ahead of its launch in Q1 2025.

The Sealion 7 is priced from £44,990 and delivers up to 312 miles of WLTP range

Revealed at the Paris Motor Show, the Sealion 7 midsize fully electric SUV is priced from £44,990 and delivers up to 312 miles of WLTP range.

The Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5 arrival has been on sale in China since 2023 as the Sea Lion 07, and arrives in a European-spec version that carries over the brand’s Blade battery and cell-to-body (CTB) construction.

Built on BYD’s latest e-Platform 3.0 Evo, already used for the Seal saloon and Dolphin hatchback in the Ocean series of models, the Sealion 7 will also enable rapid charging speeds of up to 230kW.

The line-up includes two battery capacities and three configurations to balance performance and range.

The Comfort and Design trims come with an 82.5kWh battery, offering up to 300 miles WLTP range on RWD models and 283 miles on AWD.

The top-spec Excellence AWD trim features a 91.3kWh battery, achieving the longest range in the lineup at 312 miles WLTP.

RWD models come with 313hp of power while AWD deliver 530hp.

All versions offer 11kW AC charging and up to 150kW or 230kW DC fast charging, depending on the model. A heat pump is standard, helping to maximise range, particularly in cold conditions.

Comfort models come as standard with heated seats, dual-zone climate control, a 15.6-inch rotatable screen, a wireless charging pad, and V2L capability.

Design grade adds in 20-in alloy wheels, while the Excellence grade upgrades with Nappa leather seats and a head-up display.

BYD executive vice president Stella Li said: “We’ve noticed demand for precisely this type of vehicle in Europe, so we’re delighted to introduce the Sealion 7. We’re confident that its mix of SUV design and packaging, Blade Battery technology, range, high performance and generous specification will appeal to many customers across Europe. The Sealion 7 shows how BYD is reacting to customer demand and tastes in the region, and widening our product line-up to ensure the best possible coverage of the most important vehicle types. This will be a key factor as we continue our progress in Europe.”

Pricing starts at £44,990 for Comfort RWD models, £49,290 for Design AWD and £57,290 for Excellence AWD.

The Sealion 7 will be the brand’s eighth “new energy” vehicle (fully electric and PHEV) to launch in Europe and its fifth in the UK.

The brand is also building two local production facilities in the EU, including a new site in Hungary expected to build the Sealion 7 in the future.
