CEA cuts carbon with Twizy Way car sharing

A fleet of 20 shared Twizy electric quadricycles is now available for employees to use on site, located via a smartphone application which can also display battery charge and whether the vehicle is in use.

Backed by ADEME, the French environment and energy agency, and the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry, it forms part of ongoing plans to promote alternative transport and boost car sharing at Grenoble, which has led to CEA bringing the number of single-occupant drivers among its workforce down to 36.4%.

Jean Therme, CEA’s Director of Technological Research, commented: ‘Over the last 10 years, we have established our mobility plan in waves introducing new technologies and uses. The site mobility master plan has always included innovative forms of transport and sought to encourage greater take-up of car sharing. We have close ties with Renault, so we are delighted to welcome this new Twizy fleet to round out the particularly varied mobility offering at our Grenoble facility.’

Renault and CEA have partnered on clean vehicle development since 2010. The partnership includes 200 staff, two-thirds of which are from CEA, working at the energy supplier’s sites in Grenoble and Saclay, as well as the Renault Technocentre in Guyancourt.
