Charge Your Car to partner with Chargemaster for extended charging point network

The partnership will see the organisations working together to support the widespread roll-out of the existing Charge Your Car network and Pay As You Go (PAYG) services. The move will give the two companies a network consisting of 70% of all charge points in the UK and will give Chargemaster customers increased access to charging posts in addition to those operated by POLAR, the largest recharging network in the UK.

The news follows on from the recent announcement that Chargemaster is to acquire Charge Your Car’s joint venture partner, Elektromotive Limited.

The two companies said there are significant benefits of charging points across the country being accessible through multi-payment mechanisms.

In a separate agreement the companies will also work together to develop emerging associated technologies in areas such as home charging and induction charging.

David Martell, chief executive of Chargemaster, commented: ‘This is great news for EV car buyers in the UK. The country now has a coherent network of charging points across the country and we expect this to be a major boost to the growth of low carbon motoring across the UK. The partnership is not only a good example of how the private sector can partner the public sector to serve the country’s needs but is a demonstration on how the UK is leading much of the rest of the world in providing support to the widespread adoption of EVs. We look forward to extending this partnership in other ways to further promote the UK as a centre of excellence for low-carbon motoring.’
