Chinese carmaker Qoros developing hybrid crossover

Qoros had its European debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March. Headquartered in Shanghai, the company is the result of a joint venture between Chinese carmaker Chery and the Israel Corporation, and is developing a model line for Europe and China.

AAM, meanwhile, has a modular hybrid system which can be used to offer electrically assisted four-wheel drive similar to the PSA Peugeot-Citroën Hybrid4 setup, and Volvo’s plug-in hybrid system.

While neither company has revealed where this will be used, Qoros hinted at a hybrid crossover at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. The Cross Hybrid concept (pictured), a hatchback based on the production-ready Qoros 3 C-segment saloon, uses an electric rear axle to offer petrol-only front wheel drive, electric rear-wheel drive and hybrid four-wheel drive.

AAM president and chief executive officer, David C. Dauch, said: ‘Our investment in driveline systems for hybrid and electric vehicles has allowed us to develop an innovative patent-protected product portfolio, enabling AAM to play a leading role in this important new driveline product segment.’
