The Numéro 9 concept is said to preview how the carmaker’s next generation of DS line products, comprising of C and D segment premium saloons and an SUV, will look. Styling appears heavily inspired by the SM coupe, with its transparent-fronted 3D grille, square lamps and shallow tail lights with hexagonal rear window.

In addition to new styling, the concept shows a progression of the PSA Hybrid4 technology. The powertrain can use a combination of either petrol or diesel engine, depending on the market, and a 70bhp electric rear axle. Charged in three and a half hours from a conventional plug socket, this allows it to cover 31 miles on electric power.

The concept unveiled at Beijing uses a 225bhp 1.6 THP petrol engine, and offers a combined 295bhp and 5.4-second sprint to 62mph, but returns 166mpg and emits 39g/km. New micro-hybrid technology also shuts off the engine when not required.
