New Euro NCAP test results are now out, revealing that the Cupra Born electric hatch has scored the full five-star safety rating.

The Cupra Born scored highly across all four categories in Euro NCAP’s testing

The brand’s first electric model, the Born scored highly in all four categories: adult occupant (93%), child occupant (89%), vulnerable road users (73%) and safety assist (80%).

The results follow on from the successes of the Cupra Formentor and Leon, both of which also achieved five-star ratings.

The company said the latest results showed that it was committed to delivering vehicles that mix contemporary performance and maximum safety – including for 100% electric models.

“Cupra is committed not only to bring emotions to the electric world, but also the highest safety standards to the market,” said Dr. Werner Tietz, executive vice-president for research and development at Cupra. “We’ve proven this before with the Cupra Formentor and Cupra Leon, and now we’ve continued our commitment to safety with the Cupra Born’s five-star rating.”

Elsewhere in the latest Euro NCAP tests, Mercedes’ MPV partner models, the T-Class and Citan Tourer, gained five-star ratings along with the Kia Sportage and Alfa Romeo Tonale. Meanwhile the third-generation Toyota Aygo X supermini and BMW’s all-electric i4 earned four.

The Cupra Born’s wide range of safety systems include autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, travel assist, light assist and pre-crash assist.

It also comes with seven airbags, including a standard front-central airbag, front assist with vehicle, pedestrian & cyclist detection, emergency steering assist and junction assist, lane assist and emergency e-call.
