On sale from 11 September, the new entrant is the brand’s third standalone model alongside the Formentor and Born, its second fully electric model and its first all-electric SUV-coupé.

The Tavascan follows up on the 2019 concept car to deliver an “emotional and driving orientated SUV” with a bold design using sport proportions and the signature Cupra styling. Highlights include the three-triangle eye signature headlamps and “shark nose” features.

Rivals include VW Group siblings such as the Volkswagen ID.5 and Škoda Enyaq Coupé as well as external models including the Tesla Model Y and Nissan Ariya.

Prices for the Tavascan start from £47,340 and the line-up includes V1, V2, VZ1 and VZ2 trims.

Up for grabs will be two power outputs. The entry-level version features a single motor delivering 286hp and a 77kWh battery pack with enough capacity for a WLTP range of around 352 miles. It’s good for 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds and comes in either V1 or V2 trims, the latter priced at £53,835.

The top-rung 340hp model comes with the same battery and a dual-motor setup for four-wheel drive. It’s capable of hitting 62mph in 5.5 seconds from a standing start. Prices start at £55,935 for the Tavascan VZ1 340hp and rise to £60,835 in VZ2 guise.

The battery can be charged at up to 11kW via an AC charging system or 135kW using a DC rapid charger.

Marcus Gossen, director of SEAT and Cupra UK, said: “The Tavascan marks the next step in the Cupra electrification journey, and we’re delighted to be able to bring that to life on the UK roads from 11 September this year.”
