The B-Class Electric Drive, which made its global debut at the event, will be sold in the United States before any other world market. It uses a 175bhp electric motor, and offers a range of 124 miles from its lithium ion battery pack beneath the cabin, with no loss of interior or luggage space.  The car is also internet connected, and can be controlled and configured remotely.

Daimler will also sell its battery-electric smart fortwo in the United States for the first time, where it is the least expensive electric vehicle on the market with a $25,000 (£16,500) starting price. A full battery charge gives the smart fortwo electric drive a range of 88 miles, with a 75mph top speed making it suitable for American highways.
