Domino’s Pizza Group is putting fully electric delivery vans to the test, advancing its work to go net zero.

The Renault Master E-Tech has replaced a diesel delivery vehicle to make deliveries to stores in urban areas

The pizza giant has deployed a Renault Master E-Tech electric van to replace a diesel vehicle with deliveries to stores in urban areas.

If the trial proves successful, Domino’s plans to invest in further new electric vehicles for its supply chain centre (SCC) fleet over the next 24 months.

The fully electric Renault van is zero emission at the tailpipe and emits up to 70% less CO2e in comparison to traditional petrol and diesel vehicles. It’s estimated to save 14,844kg CO2e emissions each year, based on mileage of 40,000 miles per annum.

The eLCV marks a further step towards the group’s ambition to reduce emissions across the business and run a significantly greener supply chain centre fleet by 2031.

This year has already seen Domino’s introduce 58 new distribution trucks with electric refrigeration units from DawsonGroup, further helping to improve and optimise the energy efficiency of the group’s existing SCC transport. Domino’s is committed to having electric refrigeration units on all its distribution vehicles by 2028, supporting the reduction of its CO2 emissions.

With over 80% of DPG’s Scope 1 emissions attributable to its existing diesel-powered SCC fleet, the adoption of electric vehicles aims to significantly lower Domino’s scope 1 emissions and contribute to a greener future.

As revealed in Domino’s first-ever Sustainability Report, the business aims to reduce its transportation emissions by 3,985t of CO2e by 2026 and have a significantly greener SCC fleet by 2031.

Pete Trundley, supply chain director at Domino’s Pizza Group Plc, said: “This electric vehicle trial marks an important milestone in our ambition to create a greener and more sustainable business.

“We’re also delighted by the arrival of our 58 new trucks with electric refrigeration units. EVs are a key part of our glidepath to achieving net zero by 2050. We’re excited to explore the potential of getting more of these vehicles on the road delivering for Domino’s, as we aim to slice our emissions.”
