DX Plc is propelling plans to electrify its fleet through a new partnership with EV charging specialist Mer.

The group is a leading provider of delivery solutions, including parcel freight, secure courier, 2-Man and logistics services. Its DX Freight service recently announced an initial £750,000 investment programme to electrify vehicles, dedicated to one of its most valued customers, with the first phase launching in their Southampton and Warrington depots.

DX was looking for a charging infrastructure partner that could provide consultancy, support and aftercare to underpin its plans.

Drawing on its consultancy specialism, Mer conducted a full audit and surveys of all 87 depots, to ascertain and advise on any energy constraints, to ensure all electric vehicles are fully charged overnight.

As a result, Mer has installed 7kW fast chargers from Alfen, famed for the reliability of its hardware. DX Freight is also using the Mer Connect back-office platform, which gives full visibility in real time of charger status and usage. Mer Connect also carries out regular health checks on each charge point and can also remotely fix some issues without the need for an engineer callout, reducing downtime.

Paul Ibbetson, managing director of DX Freight, said: “Our vehicles are business-critical assets that are key to delivering the consistently high level of service, we provide to our customers. We therefore needed an EV charging partner who understood our business and wanted to support us, as we progress into a more sustainable electric fleet. Mer ticked all our boxes, and we look forward to working with them in the future.”

Natasha Fry, head of strategic accounts for Mer, added: “We are proud to support DX Freight in its transition to electric vehicles. We look forward to working with DX Freight expanding its charging network as its electric fleet grows, and to strengthening our relationship with the wider DX Group.”
