Eden Project visitors offered chance to trial electric Volvos at new test drive hub

Volvo has launched its first-ever Pure Electric Test Drive Hub, located at the Eden Project and supporting its plans to EV-only by 2030.

Both the XC40 Recharge and the new C40 Recharge will be available to test-drive

More than one million people visit the Eden Project every year and the new hub will give visitors the chance to test-drive Volvo’s pure electric fleet around the Cornish roads, experiencing electric car motoring first-hand.

Both the Volvo XC40 Recharge and the new C40 Recharge – the brand’s first EV-only model and its first to be sold exclusively online – will be available to test-drive.

Test drives can be pre-booked while walk-in slots will also be available.

Volvo revealed early 2021 that it will become a fully electric car company by 2030 and move all sales online as it looks to future-proof its business. By this date, the carmaker has said it will phase out any car in its global portfolio with an internal combustion engine – including hybrids.

Kristian Elvefors, managing director of Volvo Car UK, said: “We are really excited to launch the new Volvo Pure Electric Test Drive Hub at the Eden Project. At Volvo, we recognise we have been part of the problem and are working extremely hard to ensure that our next generation of cars leave as little impact as possible. Our latest model, the C40 Recharge pure electric, demonstrates this commitment, right down to how it is manufactured and the amount of recycled material used within the car.”

Sir Tim Smit, co-founder of the Eden Project, said: “We’re delighted to be partnered with a company that really walks the talk. There is a quiet revolution going on and we want to be part of this transformation.”
