Electric vehicle sales up 228.88% in US

According to Clean Technica, sales of 100% electric vehicles were up from 14,032 units in 2012, to 46,148 units last year.

In comparison, plug-in hybrid electric sales increased 26.87% in that time period to a total of 48,951 units, only slightly higher than the total for fully electric cars.

The Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle was the biggest-selling model, at 23,094 units, while the LEAF leads the pure electric sales chart at 22,610. Tesla's Model S pure-electric luxury car, meanwhile, came in at third place with 17,650 sales – more than 5,000 ahead of the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid.

Clean Technica also reports that take-up of electric vehicles in Norway nearly doubled to 7,882 in 2013, from 3,950 units the year before.
