Elektromotive Partners With Brighton’s First Electric Car Club
The unit will be used to provide quick charging for a Mercedes-Benz Vito E-Cell, an all-electric van soon to join Brighton’s City Car Club fleet and loaned to market traders for local collections and deliveries. It provides up tom 80% charge in 20 minutes.
It’s an added way for the market to cut its environmental impact. The development, a green urban regeneration initiative led by The Hyde Group, already uses solar power, rainwater harvesting and exhaust-air heat pumps, and is certified BREEAM Excellent for its eco-friendly credentials.
To prove the efficiency of the Vito E-Cell, Elektromotive and Hyde partnered to enter the RAC Future Car Challenge last weekend, with local councillor Alex Phillips finishing the 60-mile drive with 28% charge remaining and claiming the title of most energy efficient light commercial vehicle in the process.
Elektromotive is also set to provide Elektrobay Home Chargers for the 71 sustainable homes in Hyde’s proposed One Hove Park housing development, planned for the former Bellerby’s College site in Hove.
Calvey Taylor-Haw, managing director of Elektromotive, said: ‘New commercial and residential projects such as Hyde’s Brighton’s Open Market and One Hove Park developments show how electric vehicles can work both for consumers and commercial owners.
‘Sustainable developments such as these will be accompanied hand-in-hand by a rise in sustainable transport, and it’s innovative, pioneering schemes like this that show how the EV charging infrastructure could develop organically.’
