The first 168 locations were announced by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Estonia this week, coinciding with the first fast charger going live at the Innovation Center in Talinn. A fleet of 507 Mitsubishi i-MiEVs has been deployed for government use, and consumers are being offered financial incentives to buy electric vehicles.

Although the remainder have yet to be confirmed, these are expected to be installed by the end of the year. All of the units are provided by ABB, which will provide a web-based back-office system and support for the network.

Jarmo Tuisk, head of the electro mobility program for Estonia, said: ‘The advanced fast charging infrastructure is the key component in the fully developed eco-system for electric vehicles. Together with ABB, we are committed to providing the best combination of hardware, software and services available to Estonian electric vehicle pioneers. This is the mission of the nationwide rollout of fast chargers.'
