Hyundai has updated its Kona compact SUV with a revised engine line-up and the introduction of a new sporty N Line trim.

On sale mid-January priced from £21,060, the launch line-up will include both a full petrol-hybrid powertrain and a new 48V mild hybrid petrol, while the facelifted Kona Electric will arrive in the spring.

The full hybrid Kona, priced from £23,750, uses a 1.6-litre GDI petrol four-cylinder engine and an electric motor linked to a 1.56kWh lithium ion polymer battery pack and featuring a six-speed dual clutch transmission. Emissions and fuel economy are yet to be announced. It’s offered with SE Connect, Premium and Ultimate trims.

The other engine in the launch line-up is Hyundai’s 1.0-litre T-GDi Smartstream petrol engine, now featuring 48V mild hybrid technology and with a six-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission, first seen in the facelifted i30 and the new i20.

The mild hybrid is available with the same trims as the full hybrid but is also offered in the new mid-spec N Line specification, priced from £23,590. Sitting above the SE Connect, this features bespoke N Line front and rear styling, 18-inch alloy diamond-cut wheels, extra comfort and convenient features and interior styling upgrades.

Other changes to the facelifted Kona include revised suspension, new connectivity features and a series of exterior and interior updates.

The updated Kona range goes on sale in the UK from 18 January 2021.
