Fiat launches £3k electric car grant for 500e
Fiat has launched its own electric car ‘grant’ in the UK, compensating for the defunct Plug-in Car Grant.
Announced some 12 months after OZEV closed the PiCG, the Fiat E-Grant gives a £3,000 discount to 500e and 500e Convertible buyers.
That’s double the £1,500 that was offered via the PiCG when it closed on 14 June 2022
The Italian car brand has also written an open letter to the UK government, urging it to help incentivise drivers to go electric as it warns that drivers still need help to make the switch.
Within the EU, 21 member states currently offer incentives to stimulate electric car uptake, with countries such as Germany and Spain offering significant incentives of up to €9,000 (£7,760).
Damien Dally, managing director, Fiat UK, commented: “With the cost-of-living crisis and rising cost of electric vehicles, coupled with our net zero climate targets, we believe more needs to be done to incentivise individuals to be able to afford to make the switch.
“That’s why we’ve taken it upon ourselves to launch the Fiat E-Grant, a £3,000 incentive towards the 500e and 500e Convertible.
“The 500e has won countless industry accolades, it looks great, its compactness suits our busy streets and roads and will certainly put a smile on a driver’s face. We want drivers up and down the country to have a better chance of experiencing that.”
Last year saw the brand axe all non-electrified vehicles from its UK line-up while it’s also pledged to become an electric-only brand by 2030.
