Shown at the Detroit Motor Show, it features a 9.8kWh lithium polymer battery pack and offers a fully electric range of 22 miles – slightly longer than the Ford Fusion Energi’s 20-mile range – from a two and a half hour charge.

The battery powers a 50kW electric motor paired with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, producing a combined 202bhp. Hyundai’s internal estimates indicate a 93mpg (111mpg Imperial) equivalent (on the EPA economy test) when running on its electric motor and 40mpg (48mpg Imperial) combined when the battery is depleted.
