Frankfurt Motor Show: VW unveils CV version of e-up!
Dubbed “e-load up!”, the four-door vehicle is an electrically powered city delivery van that offers small outer dimensions but with a variety of internal configurations to suit urban use, including pizza deliveries and couriers.
VW says the idea behind the model is that a very small van that carries correspondingly small loads is able to operate more efficiently than a larger vehicle if, when larger volumes need transporting, the operator can rely on a fleet of sister vehicles.
The 3.54m-long vehicle features a seat for the driver, a fold-up passenger seat and over 1m3 of space in the back.
Compared to the passenger model, the cargo capacity of the load up! has increased from 951 to over 1,400 litres. The van weighs 1.164 kg and can carry a total load of 306kg.
The concept is powered by an 82hp electric motor with 210Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 62mph within 12.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 81mph.
There’s an 18.7kWh lithium-ion battery integrated into the floor, which offers a of up to 99 miles (NEFC) on a single charge. The optional CCS combined charging system supports both direct and alternating current charging, and provides a charge of to 80% of the battery capacity in 30 minutes.
VW says given the right level of demand, such a vehicle could be available soon.
