Construction group Galliford Try has committed to providing only electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles for its company car fleet from now on.

So far in 2021, 88% of new car orders at Galliford Try were fully electric or PHEV and this will switch to 100% from now on

The pledge is seen as a crucial measure in the company’s work to reach zero carbon across its operations by 2030.

The group currently leases some 1,000 vehicles for use by employees and 37% of these are already fully electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles – with a considerable majority being the former.

So far in 2021, 88% of new orders were fully electric or PHEV and this will switch to 100% from now on.

The group’s work to date has seen emissions decrease to an average of 77g/km in 2020 from 133g/km in 2012.

Commenting on the new commitment, chief executive Bill Hocking said: “This is one step among many as we make progress towards our 2030 zero carbon target. The fantastic adoption of EV and PHEV alternatives by our people so far has allowed us to take this next step and make sure our fleet is as environmentally friendly as it possibly can be as we go forward.”

Galliford Try has also reinforced its eco commitments with its refreshed Sustainable Growth Strategy, unveiled last week. With the widespread promotion of its Smart and Agile Working programmes, the business continues to focus on bringing down travel costs, together with maximising the new ways of working established and adopted during the pandemic.
