German government greenlights EV incentive scheme

Outlined in April, these include a €4,000 purchase incentive for electric vehicles and €3,000 for plug-in hybrids, funded equally by the government and manufacturers, valid until 2019 or until the €600m federal funding has run out.

It also sets out a ten-year exemption from vehicle tax, while company car drivers will be able to charge at work as a tax-free benefit. Businesses will be able to claim subsidies on charging points, while €300m of funding will be provided to grow Germany’s public charging network.
