The first high-power EV charging hub in Wales has opened at Moto Swansea, marking a step-change in the country’s EV charging infrastructure.

The Swansea Electric Hub is part of Gridserve’s expanding Electric Highway and initially hosts six 350kW high-power EV charge points, with the ability to quickly add a further six high power chargers as soon as they are required.

All chargers will be supplied with 100% net zero carbon energy from Gridserve’s solar farms, accept contactless payment for maximum accessibility, and have the ability to deliver 100-miles of range in less than 10 minutes.

Located at junction 47 on the M4, the Gridserve Electric Hub will help tackle the ‘postcode lottery’ in EV charging. Currently, Wales has one of the lowest numbers of EV charge points per head of population in the UK.

It’s part of Gridserve’s mass upgrade to the motorway EV charging infrastructure as it continues to deliver its rollout of Electric Hubs and Electric Forecourts at key locations across the UK. Since Gridserve acquired Ecotricity’s Electric Highway in June 2021, the company has already invested tens of millions of pounds in upgrading the network.

The business is also actively looking at further sites in Wales for the development of future Electric Hubs and its Electric Forecourts to help boost charging in the country and drive the switch to EVs.

For Moto, the new hub supports its plans to open ultra high-power charging hubs at all of its sites over the coming 12 months.
