Gridserve has appointed Daniel Kunkel as its new CEO, supercharging growth plans in the UK.

Daniel Kunkel, incoming CEO at Gridserve

Kunkel, previously CEO at Shell’s on-street charging subsidiary Ubitricity, joins the electric vehicle charging and sustainable energy business in March. He will take over from Roy Williamson, Gridserve’s executive chair, who assumed interim leadership last year following the departure of founder Toddington Harper.

Kunkel’s tenure at Shell spanned 20 years across the customer-facing retail business. Alongside his CEO role at Ubitricity, he was also responsible for driving performance across the engineering lifecycle for Shell’s 46,000 retail outlets.

He joins Gridserve as the firm continues to accelerate the rollout of ultra-rapid charging infrastructure across the UK. Now operating over 190 locations with 1,400 charging bays, the firm delivers more than 250,000 charging sessions monthly. The business includes Electric Forecourts and a UK-wide network of Super Hubs, which have up to 36 charging bays at the busiest sites, along with its Electric Retail Hubs at popular shopping destinations.

Kunkel commented: “Together with Roy and the team, we will elevate the success of Gridserve to new heights and build a future we’re proud of. I am looking forward to creating positive change together, with the customer at the heart of all we do.”

Roy Williamson said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming Daniel to Gridserve. He is a perfect fit for the company with his experience in energy and EV charging. I look forward to working with Daniel on Gridserve’s mission to deliver sustainable energy through EV charging at a scale that makes a difference.”
