Gridserve hits milestone of 50 new EV charging hubs in 2023
Gridserve has reached the milestone of having 50 new Electric Super Hubs locations either already open or underway for 2023.
The new hubs form part of phase one of its 2023 delivery plans, with dozens of additional sites now also being prepared for construction and a Super App also in development.
The first phase of the rollout will add a further 400 of Gridserve’s 350kW ultra rapid charge points across England, Scotland and Wales, more than doubling the number of these type of charge points currently available. The new charge points will deliver the equivalent power of 20,000 home EV charge points and will be able to deliver some 100 miles of range in about 10 minutes for the fastest charging cars currently available.
The new Electric Super Hub sites are located on the UK’s busiest routes, as well as Electric Retail Hubs at popular shopping destinations.
They’ll be followed by further Electric Super Hubs, which are being prepared for construction, providing hundreds of additional 350kW charge points to help support the Government target of at least six high-power charge points at each motorway service area by the end of this year
Gridserve is also working to fast-track hub connections through technology to minimise issues caused by grid connection lead times. Its Moto Ferrybridge sites features a temporary microgrid that uses batteries and vegetable oil, while Cornwall Services uses a combination of a 100kW grid connection, lithium-ion batteries, solar energy and latest software.
Toddington Harper, CEO, said: “By announcing Gridserve reaching the milestone of our phase one 2023 rollout, we are able to deliver EV drivers further confidence to make the switch knowing they can travel with ease, and net zero carbon emissions, across the length and breadth of the country.
“It’s clear that the climate crisis is upon us, and it’s critical we continue to increase our pace – we are now also immediately commencing our phase 2 rollout, with the target to also deliver hundreds more high-power charge points this year.”
Gridserve will also open an Electric Forecourt at London Gatwick this year, said to be the first of its kind worldwide at an international airport and joining the existing sites at Braintree and Norwich. Planning permission is also approved at several other sites including Nevendon, Gateshead, Plymouth, Stevenage and Markham Vale, with more than 30 additional sites also under development.
All Gridserve locations feature CCS, CHAdeMO and AC connectors, accept contactless payment and provide real-time status updates to many popular EV charging maps. A ‘Super App’ is also under development to provide many additional features.
