The as-yet-unnamed model will use the same distinctive retro-futuristic design as the Funky Cat hatchback and will go up against the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6.

The new model has been on sale in China since late 2022. UK specification is yet to be confirmed, but it’s likely to feature an electric range of over 300 miles WLTP and offer both 2WD and 4WD powertrain options, the latter producing around 400hp with 680Nm of torque, delivering a 0-62mph time of just over 4.4 seconds.

The focus will also be on high levels of quality and technology. Full equipment details are yet to be confirmed but a large glass panoramic roof, synthetic leather seats and interior multi-colour ambient lights will come as standard.

Ora, a sub-brand of Chinese automotive giant Great Wall Motors (GWM), said the new model would enhance its premium EV offering in the UK, alongside the Funky Cat First Edition, which went on sale in November 2022.

Toby Marshall, managing director, GWM Ora UK, commented: “The reveal of our next premium electric vehicle in the UK is a really momentous occasion for the brand. It signals the high level of commitment and investment from GWM Ora to establish itself as a leader in multiple segments across the UK. We always knew our first model, Funky Cat, was just the start. There are lots more exciting things to come.”

Reservations for the new model are now open while GWM Ora UK is also planning to launch additional variants of the Funky Cat later this year, bringing higher levels of equipment with features such as heated and cooled seats, massage seats, and a bigger battery option.
