A consultation that could see all but the cleanest vehicles banned from two zones in Shoreditch is now underway.

The plans could see all vehicles bar ULEVs banned from nine streets in Shoreditch during morning and evening rush hour.

The plans could see all vehicles bar ULEVs banned from nine streets in Shoreditch during morning and evening rush hour.

Run by Hackney and Islington councils, the scheme would only allow ultra low emission vehicles to enter nine streets during the peak commuter periods of 7am-10am and 4pm-7pm Monday to Friday in an initial “first step”. However, the councils said the ultimate goal is to “reclaim the streets from polluting motor vehicles”.

The councils added that residents and businesses on the streets affected would still be able to use their cars.
