The 'triple-standard' unit features three separate plugs comprising a DC 44kw CHAdeMO plug, a DC 44kW CCS Combo plug and an AC 43kW Type 2 plug, and can recharge a battery to 80% in 25 minutes.

Highways England’s team manager, Russell Bagshaw said: “We are keen to see a reduction in emissions on UK roads, and our new electric vehicles will help us realise this. The addition of Chargemaster’s Rapid Charger means that we have the option to plug in hybrid vehicles without needing to rely on the internal combustion engine.”

Chargemaster’s chief executive, David Martell added: “We are delighted to provide Highways England with its first Rapid Charger at the Dartford Crossing.
