Honda reveals hybrid-only Civic and confirms trio of new electrified models
Honda has taken the wraps off its new hybrid-only Civic and announced a trio of new electrified models.
Arriving this autumn and completing the electrification of its European line-up, the 11th-generation Civic is the latest car to be offered exclusively with the brand’s e:HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) technology and joins its existing electrified line-up alongside the Jazz, Jazz Crosstar, CR-V, HR-V and Honda e.
Honda also confirmed the further expansion of the line-up in 2023. New additions include an all-electric B-segment SUV, previewed as the e:Ny1 Prototype, a C-segment full hybrid SUV, and the all-new CR-V, which will be available with both full hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options for the first time in Europe.
In the case of the Civic, it uses the latest version of the brand’s e:HEV powertrain, which combines a newly developed 2.0-litre direct injection DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine with two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery, producing 184hp and 315Nm of torque.
It’s targeted to achieve CO2 emissions of less than 110g/km and with over 56.5mpg (under 5l/100km).
The powertrain switches seamlessly between EV, Hybrid and Engine drive with no driver input and provides four drive modes – Eco, Normal, Sport and a new Individual mode, which can be tailored by the driver.
The new-generation Civic also features a 35mm longer wheelbase and wider rear track over its predecessor to help deliver improved straight-line and cornering performance. The longer wheelbase also increases cabin capacity while the lower bonnet line brings improved visibility and the A-pillar has been relocated to give a more balanced look.
The interior adopts a metal honeycomb-pattern air vent detail as part of a focus on new tactile, high-quality materials throughout. The new Civic also offers an intuitive infotainment package, including a larger 9-inch central touchscreen complete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Three trims will be available – Elegance, Sport and Advance – and the top-spec Advance models also get a 10.2-inch HD colour LCD panel for improved visibility.
The Civic also comes with a comprehensive suite of advanced safety features offered as standard. Honda’s expanded Sensing suite of advanced safety features and driver aids brings a new 100-degree front wide-view camera and enhanced recognition technology. It also includes front and rear sonar sensors, supporting new safety technology.
UK prices and specifications will be announced closer to launch.
