Honda has revealed its all-new ZR-V crossover, due on sale this autumn as a hybrid rival to the Nissan Qashqai.

Previewed last year, it’s one of three new electrified Honda SUVs that will launch in Europe this year, alongside the sixth-generation CR-V and the all-new and fully electric e:Ny1, helping to electrify the line-up.

Lining up above the HR-V compact crossover and below the revamped and enlarged CR-V, it’s aimed at young, image-conscious buyers “who seek a stylish, powerful and fun to drive vehicle that can seamlessly integrate into their life”.

It’s based on the Civic and also shares the same e:HEV hybrid powertrain, optimised for the ZR-V and using a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder direct-injection Atkinson cycle petrol engine in conjunction with two motors. There’s no word on performance or economy yet but the latter is claimed to be outstanding.

The bespoke, lightweight, rigid chassis has been inspired by concepts seen in both the Civic and CR-V platforms, and driving characteristics and agility are said to be akin to sports hatchbacks.

Practicality is also a key attribute and the ZR-V delivers up to 1,291 litres for load-carrying, helped by underfloor storage, while the cabin comes with a large number of trays and pockets.

Honda also promises a premium cabin experience, using high-quality soft touch materials with detailed finishing. Full details on equipment are still due but the ZR-V gets a 9.0-inch touchscreen, multiple charge points and latest HMI technology.
