The high performance diesel-electric hybrid recorded an average 147.002mph over the one kilometre (0.62-mile) course to take the Flying Kilmetre record. It also went on to take the Standing Kilometre title, reaching 92.245mph from standstill over the same distance.

Boije Ovebrink, Mean Green’s driver and owner, said: ‘We are very pleased with Mean Green’s performance, especially at such a high altitude. We knew Wendover would present challenges because it’s more than 4,200 feet (1,280 metres) above sea level.’

The truck is built almost entirely using production parts. Based on a Volvo VN cab and frame, it uses a D16 diesel engine and I-Shift automatic gearbox modified to work with an electric motor. It offers a combined 2,100bhp and almost 5,000lb.ft of torque, of which 200bhp and 885lb.ft are provided by the electric motor.
